Principal's Message:
George P. Nicholson School
George P. Nicholson School opened in September of 2002 and provides programming for kindergarten to grade six students residing in the neighborhood of Twin Brooks. We are very fortunate to have a beautiful facility, wonderful children, a dedicated staff and a welcoming, supportive community.
From the first day we have focused on the important work of teaching and learning.
We have truly worked together as a community to "Inspire a World of Wonder".
With the support of our community, we are preparing our students for the future
by emphasizing student programming that develops inquiry skills. Through our
teachers’ use of best practices which include problem solving, questioning
and assessment for learning we support our students’ growth as curious, reflective
and critical thinkers.
Additional programming enhancements include: French as a Second Language beginning
at kindergarten through to grade six, an emphasis on a literature rich environment
with our strong library program, a flourishing music program, the development
of an environmental garden, informed use of technology to support student
learning, and support for the development of healthy and physically active
lifestyles.
Our desire is to provide a well-balanced educational experience to help our
students succeed as knowledgeable, creative, reflective, caring and principled
citizens in our rapidly changing world.
We believe strongly in a culture of collaboration and meaningful dialogue
between teachers, administrators, parents and students - one that supports
and strengthens the learning process.
